Year Two Report

What kinds of successes have happened in dance education at your school?
We had a very successful two years of dance integration.......in fact, we now consider ourselves DANCE INTEGRATIONISTS~!

-Top of the list, our staff development inservice for K-6 teachers (we will describe this later),

-Our team who integrated these activities with our CAPP committee activities for this school year - even to the possible development of
Dancing Our Community classes for future with one of our own local dancers

-Visits and HUGE programming and special field trips included:
Derek Phillips -ACE dance liason
Christopher Yaeger - Social Dances in both years with Distance Learning classes from Cowles site -
Ross Sutter - folk dance with all first grade, sponsored by Mora CAPP and ACE dance team
Voice of Culture - Kenna Sarge and West African dancing for both K-2 Fairview and 3--6 Trailview student body along with an afterschool class
for students and families of all ages - 60 people in attendance supported by CAPP and ACE team members - support for this from
East Central Regional Arts Council and the Mora CAPP committee
ZENON dance residency/field trip project with distance learning - glad to be on board this grant too! involving all our team's students (3 classes)
plans for NayAhShing Tribal School Native American Dancing for September

-Supporting each other and visiting in each others classroom- mentoring and gaining confidence from each other
......opening meeting for Responsive Classrooms now include movement
*and more students were exposed to the activities because two specialists areas were involved...music and art i.e. kindergarten parades
-Students have knowledge of BASTE
-Staff development funding used to support our projects.

-ADMINISTRATIVE SUPPORT from our new principal, superintendent and dean of students......board meeting for May to include a report from us
as well - we'll be using Diane's powerpoint on Why Dance Belongs in the Schools

-Inclusion and integration of our PBIS team life skills and the Reading Team lyceum skits for all students - DANCES WITH BOOKS

What were the challenges?
Making enough time to celebrate the successes.....continue the opportunities, follow up on all the many awesome
experiences, documenting and sharing (i.e. publicity) the experiences, share with the school board - getting on their agenda
Keeping up with our own network, extending the links with our other ACE team peers - especially Lincoln visit from year one.
Original goal was to start with our FV preK-2 ages and work upward.
Getting the focus for movement into upper grades....ongoing goal began with shared resources/ mini residencies with Ross Sutter and
Kenna Sarge by having the experiences listed above.

Year One Report

What kinds of successes have happened in dance education at your school?
All team members are incorporating movement in their weekly lessons, Teachers have shared what they have done in their rooms or ACE workshops during staff meetings or parent evening events at school. Team has also incorporated movement integration with community events, such as the during the Mora Vasalopet cross country skiing event.

What were the challenges?
Our team's challenge this year have been scheduling issues with getting all the teacher's involved with dance integrated lessons. Another challenge has been changing the overall attitude of teacher's toward dance. Finding planning time for creating lessons with dance/movement integration has been difficult, but our ACE resources have really helped us address this challenge. We still need to find even more time/opportunities to create lessons and collaborate with each other on the team to create movement events and programs.
